The point of the Gingery machines is not simply to acquire a lathe, shaper, mill, or drill press, etc. If you factor the financial cost of, and the time taken to get the raw materials, make the patterns and moulds, cast and finish the parts, and assemble them into a working machine, you would most likely have exceeded the purchase price of an equivalent secondhand machine – even at minimum wage. WebI plan to use tapered roller bearings with a housing that allows alignment and preload which can itself be bolted to the base of the lathe and aligned to the rails using shim stock and bolt hole clearance. What I plan to use: 1.5" mild square tube, 1/8" thick for the frame 3/8" to 1/2" hot rolled plate for the heavy steel construction
